YFC Lincoln’s 2014 Banquet– Highlights

The 2014 YFC/  Youth Unlimited Lincoln Fall Banquet at Hernder Estate Wines gave YFC staff, volunteers, and steering committee members an opportunity to thank past donors for their support and introduce prospective donors to the ministry.

Thanks to generous sponsors and friends of the ministry most of the night’s expenses were already covered, meaning the banquet could bring in between $12 000 and $14 000 (final numbers not available at the time this page was published). In addition, guests were made aware of the various needs of the Upper Deck Youth Centre, YFC’s drop in centre located in Vineland.

The evening began with some musical pieces that fit in well with the theme for this year, western. Jen Vanderwier and Calvin DeVries, brother of Upper Deck director Steph DeVries, provided the live music for the event, and Steve Samuels, ministry staff member, served as emcee.

YFC Lincoln director Glen Sparks thanked this year’s sponsors, then opened with prayer. After dinner, dessert and more music from Calvin and Jen, ministry staff Jane Bleijerveld shared a bit about some of the programs that operated out of Upper Deck this past year and gave a summary of the events and outings that took place offsite.  Steve and Steph then took turns laying out their vision for the ministry.

As Steph wrapped up, she announced that a young boy who attends Upper Deck had asked if he could address the crowd to give a simple but unplanned thank you. Then two more young people shared, one at the podium and one via videotaped recording. Steering committee member Larry Dyck then gave a direct appeal to the audience for financial support. After a closing hymn, steering committee member Jerry Schroeder gave final announcements and dismissed the crowd.

The Many Hands Reveal Day– A Huge Success

On April 12, YFC/ Youth Unlimited Lincoln’s Upper Deck Youth Centre reopened its doors to the young people of Vineland and beyond after undergoing a renovation courtesy of Niagara College’s Many Hands Project.

Each year, this class takes on a rebuilding project to teach its students hands-on renovation skills.  The Upper Deck was its 2014 recipient.  The YFC facility receive a new floor, furniture, computers, couches, a new stove and a  new television.  The Project put on various fundraisers throughout the past few months to finance the upgrades.

YFC Lincoln is very grateful to all involved with the Many Hands Project.  Their hard work, perseverance through adversity, and commitment to follow through were evident.  We also thank God for the blessings provided for this ministry through this renovation.

Solar Panels Are Up And Running

solarThe  solar panels sitting on top of YFC/Youth Unlimited Lincoln’ s Upper Deck Youth Centre are now turned on and are running. The returns on this long term investment into the future of our area teens has been paying dividends since March of 2014. In a little over 2.5 years, our local community helped us pay off a total cost of $35000. They were fully paid for at the end of 2016. We want to say a big THANK YOU!

Upper Deck’s Massive Makeover Continues

IMG_0949 IMG_0950 IMG_0951Major upgrades are continuing at the Upper Deck Youth Centre, YFC Lincoln’s youth facility in Vineland.  On the inside, the Many Hands Project is hard at work renovating the xxx- year-old building by tearing down and erecting new walls, applying fresh coats of paint, refurbishing floors and remodeling the kitchen.  The work is being done by the Niagara College students who make up the Many Hands Project

Meanwhile, the roof is being made ready for the solar panels that will be installed soon.  It is currently being reinforced to withstand the added weight.  That project is slated to be completed sometime next month.  The interior renovations are to scheduled to wrap up in time for Reveal Day on April 12, when the centre will show off its new look to the community.
